MARHTA MTHOMBENI STAYS IN WATER

Water invades RDP houses

Several homes of Mabopane Unit V are faced with a problem of water invading their yards.
With the upcoming winter season, residents of this area will have to face very cold conditions following the water that rises in their yard.  Community members are confused about how and where the water does come from.
Residents suspected that the water leak comes from a reservoir that is situated a few metres from their homes.
According to them, they have reported to Rand Water that there is a leakage coming from the pipes of the reservoir. The water leakage gets worse at night.
A resident Rosina Sibanyoni said she was surprise when she woke up Friday her yard was damp. “I asked my neighbour   if her yard was also damp like mine, we were surprised because there was no rainfall. Sunday water started to come out hence the whole yard is wet now,” she explained
Martha Mthombeni, who is affected by the problem, said she is confused as to what to do with the water that fills her yard.
“Now it is already winter and it is cold, so I do not know how we will survive,” said
Mthombeni.
She is worried because her house will be damaged, “I am not working I live by collecting bottles and recycle them. If I lose my house then how I am going to get another one,” she added.
DA councillor Jacob Ridge Petersen, who is responsible for the area, said he was aware about the matter.
“I contacted the water department about this matter and they promised to come and check where the problem is and fix it as soon as possible,” he said.
